SY One Love was hauled out at Nanny Cay Marina, Tortola BVI. New bottom job included stripping and sanding the bottom sides, application of 3.5 coats of Barrier Coat, 3.5 coats of bottom paint, new boot stripe. New props, shafts, sail drive seals and engine and generator maintenance.
After conducting an exhaustive search for the best crew, the positions were offered to Captain Eric Hollman and First Mate Kristen Alexander. They both bring a fabulous resume with them, along with amazing guest and broker reviews.

It’s not difficult to understand why many people try to organize their trip to the Virgin Islands so that it coincides with some already-memorable occasion. Birthdays, anniversaries and public holidays are natural times that people want to get away to someplace special. There are others though who plan to add to their vacation, making it extra special, by making what is hopefully a once-in-a-lifetime gesture while there. This was the case for our last charter. We’d like to congratulate Jacob, who popped “the question” and Anecia, who accepted. For the record, this is not the first time that a couple have become engaged while vacationing with us. Perhaps we should now change our boat’s name from One Love to Two Love?
I’m sure that if we were to think about it, we could award every one of our charter groups a prize of some kind. With this group, there was no doubt in our minds what to award their prize for: these guys were our most active hikers to date!
You could book a room on a cruise ship, stop at a limited number of ports, get cattle prodded into town with thousands of other passengers OR you can book the One Love sailing yacht and leisurely sail the Virgin Islands spending time in quiet anchorages while enjoying superb food and fantastic cocktails. Create your own schedule so you’re as busy or quiet as you like. This is simply THE BEST way to experience the Virgin Islands!! — Mark
Our tenth charter this season turned out to be an extremely fun one. Not only were we blessed with a very easy-to-please family, we got to travel with our friends Ed and Kathy on the catamaran Elixir, our Buddy Boat for the week.
We had a full seven nights with the Nicol family, and their friends on Elixir, which meant we had plenty of time to hit all of the hot spots. As there’s so much to do there, we spent a full two nights in the North Sound on Virgin Gorda. That extra time allowed our guests to visit the famous Baths, complete an island tour, take part in Michael Beans’ Happy Arrr show, and see the fish feeding at Saba Rock. The North Sound is also a great place for hiking, swimming, snorkeling and watersports, and our guests were able to enjoy all of that too!
It’s so pleasant for us to have guests on board who just seem happy with everything that we do. They love the food, they love the anchorages, and they love the experiences. Even when Mother Nature throws a curve ball at us, as she did at the beginning of this charter with her higher-than-normal winds and bumpy seas, these particular guests seemed unfazed. And it should go without saying, when our guests are happy, we’re happy!
“All of the food was very delicious! And I appreciated the variety. Thanks for all the yummy desserts too. As a mom, it was wonderful to be spoiled with such delicious and thoughtful (healthy) meals. You are a wonderful cook” — Lori
Every charter on One Love leaves us with lasting memories. In the case of the Scranton/Wilson/Hall charter, we have dozens of amazing ones that will not leave us!
We had been informed prior to the guests’ arrival that a special event was to take place during the trip, a wedding proposal.
These four guests were up for almost anything and we did our best to fill the days and nights with fun activities. Let the pics below be evidence of that!
People are often curious about the routes that we take during a week-long charter, and the places we stop. Many seem to think that we have a canned itinerary and that we always go to the same places. While there are definitely popular spots that most people want to visit, the fact is that we really do plan our trips on-the-fly with input from our guests (and, of course, Mother Nature). Why? Because the word vacation means very different things to different people.
Take our last group for example; they were all just extremely happy to simply enjoy their time on One Love. While other guests may not be satisfied unless they hit all the hot spots, the Carmichael clan was more interested in doing the opposite, spending time in quiet, out-of-the way places, and we were happy to provide that. Two of the guests were avid SCUBA divers so we made a point of arranging a couple of rendezvous dives for them, but beyond that, we all just enjoyed the settled weather as we circumnavigated the islands. And what’s not to love about spending time on a beautiful boat in the pristine Virgin Islands?
As nice as some of the Virgin Island hotels are, in our opinion, there really is no better way to fully experience the beauty that the islands have to offer than by boat. Our last guests, who celebrated their honeymoon here 10 years ago, just got to experience that for themselves.
We were super happy to have Wes and Colleen on board One Love for the last week, and we enjoyed shuttling them around to a selection of our favorite spots as they celebrated their anniversary. Like the week previous, the winds were light so our opportunities to sail were limited. That didn’t stop us from having a great time though. In fact, we took full advantage of the settled conditions, making numerous stops all the way from St. Thomas to Virgin Gorda.
This was our first time with only two guests on board and we enjoyed spending time with them, sharing laughs and stories, games and movies. As Colleen noted in her post-charter survey, she feels that she made some good friends while chartering with us. We couldn’t agree more! We only hope that Wes and Colleen won’t wait another 10 years before they come back to visit.
It is always a pleasure to have guests on board who both understand, and appreciate the work that we put into a charter, and it was obvious to us that our last four guests, our fifth group this season, fit into that category.
Unlike the week previous where the Christmas Winds were blowing in full force, we had unseasonably settled conditions during this charter (read light winds). In spite of that, we still had some great sails early on in the week.
Similar to the guests that we had on board before Christmas who requested a special Paleo menu, we were tasked with serving a completely gluten-free menu this time around.
We had a lot of fun with Bill, Jennifer, Kelly and Sheila, sharing many laughs and fun experiences throughout the week. Hopefully we’ll see their smiling faces on board with us again in the not-too-distant future.
Our chef was amazing at anticipating our needs. Meals, snacks, portions… all perfect. Truly loved it all. No disappointment with food. Thank you both for meals and cocktails! — Kelly
Most amazing trip! Wasn’t sure if I would be OK with accommodations (i.e. sleeping well on the boat) but all was fabulous! Really appreciate the crew’s attention to detail. Thanks so much for showing us a little bit of your paradise. — Jennifer
Our crew were so lovely and accommodating. Fun, yet relaxed and professional. You made wonderful suggestions to optimize our shorter trip. The service was spectacular! You made our vacation special and memorable. We were glad you joined us for games, snorkeling and to Foxy’s. — Sheila
